This artwork is a contemporary reinterpretation of the borqa — the traditional face covering worn by women in southern Iran.
Here, it is recreated in metal, combining Persian arabesque motifs and calligraphy. The main intention behind this piece is to revive one of the historical and cultural symbols of the women of Hormozgan. In the local dialect of Hormozgan, the letter “q” is pronounced as “k”, and thus borqa is spoken as borka.
In this borqa, the woman is not hidden — she becomes the maker of visibility.
